A shape expressing strength and stylishness
Among other traits, SUVs are perceived to offer a sense of power. While being stylish on the road, SUVs offer a strong sense of reliability in outdoor activities. The Rv5 series embodies this active, tough image unique to SUVs.For the Rv5 series, Rays used a vigorous, dynamic design based on straight lines and surfaces. We subjected this product to a composite machining process that uses two cutting methods. In addition to vivid sharpness, a sense of three dimensionality based on level variance as well as the impression of a large diameter are expressed in an innovative fashion by the surface from the spoke side part, based on 3D cutting processing, to the different-level spoke-top part made by a 2D cutting method. The Rv5 series delivers highly-fashionable features while looking rugged and tough. Supported by the black composite machining process and Brilliant Noir color, the multi-unit wheel surface complexly reflects light as if it were a jewel.The shape of Rv5 series wheels, which makes SUVs look powerful regardless of the scene, express strength and stylishness. Massive spokes
Rays adopted a trapezoid format for straight, thick, 2x5 design-based spokes; one side slopes sideways toward the wheel rim. This format generates a sense of three dimensionality and bulkiness. We performed machining narrowly and sharply on the part close to the wheel center hub, putting a large outline DC on the outer rim. This created an outwardly-sloping silhouette of the engraved surface, stressing the large diameter while solidly supporting the SUV’s bottom.
Composite machining
Composite machining refers to a three-dimensional cutting processing method used by RAYS MCDC. This method applies different cutting procedures to spokes’ side parts and top surfaces. The spoke side’s machining-processed surface slopes to varying degrees at different levels toward the spoke’s top surface. The engraved surface showing different angles and levels emphasizes the wheel’s three dimensionality. We dared not use simple straight lines, instead expressing rugged-natured strength and a highly distinctive edginess.
Brilliant cutting
The machining-processed surfaces of all 10 BAA-colored spokes each reflect lights at different angles to accentuate shadows. These surfaces, together with the diamond-engraved spoke top surfaces, emit metal flashes from many angles in the manner of cut jewels.
Brilliant Noir
The luxuriously spluttered and Brilliant Noir-colored wheel surface radiates various types of light. Diamond-based engraving was performed on the spokes’ top surfaces, causing them to shine in a way natural to aluminum and causing the side parts to glitter in a manner characteristic of spluttered surfaces. Light is directed to the multi-face surface comprised of the spoke’s top surface, the mildly-extended spoke side surface, and the spoke corners. Thus, the wheel has a sense of bulkiness, making it appear larger than it really is.
